.. forAfter many years as a ‘safe pair of hands’ actor, mainly in film and television, I moved into the production side as a freelance writer and producer. I have written feature films, TV and radio dramas, documentaries and animation series and also worked as a script doctor.
In 2009 I founded Funky Medics, a production company focussing mainly on innovative health education.
In 2021 I was one of three founding directors of small indie publisher Diamond Crime (Diamond Books Ltd).
My four part drama series, Pili Pala (Butterfly Breath), produced by Triongl, was broadcast on S4C in September 2019
Currently I am at first draft stage of an animated film, The Legend of Pa Miu with Tom Cat Productions; in late development as co-writer and Exec Producer on Echoes, a Wales/Manitoba/First Nation feature film, due to shoot in Canada in 24/25 and co produced by Julijette Inc and Triongle Cyf; at first draft stage on Mercy’s Way a feature film screenplay for Maria Morancho Films;

I have written three psychological thrillers Siena, Single Cell and TimeSlip, all published or republished by Diamond Crime (diamondcrime.uk)
Through Funky Medics, I was Writer and producer ‘FH – A Story of Hope’, an animated film and ‘Buddy’s FH Adventure’, an interactive digital audio book, for UK and US charities which focuses on Familial Hypercholesterolaemia (FH, or inherited high cholesterol). Co producer UK shoot of Egyptian TV series ‘Herbert’s Dream’. Conceiver, writer and producer ‘Carry on Cholesterol’ for Funky Medics, an educational DVD for children and young people with FH. I’ve been involved in similar projects on heart disease, smoking and drug abuse, for various bodies, including the NHS.
I am also in on going development as writer and co-producer on Sweetheart, a pan India Diabetes Awareness and Communication Initiative – a mixed media, multi platform Animation Project with animation studio Graphiti Multi Media in Mumbai; this is an ongoing quest to find time and finance and perhaps a hard dream to fulfil.
I’ve worked with young people on acting, writing and film projects and as an occasional lecturer on creative writing and screenplay development. I also worked on several health research projects with Universities in the UK as a PPI lead/Education consultant.
I’ve worked as a freelance project consultant, mainly with NGOs in India. For the last 24 years I have been connected to Mangalakara, a children’s home, school and education complex near Puttaparthi in Andrapadesh, Southern India. https://www.philrowlandswriter.com/mangalakara/
As an actor I appeared in many film and television productions as well as in plays, series and short stories for BBC Radio 4.
Originally from Pembrokeshire, West Wales, I now live near Cardiff. I have British nationality and Canadian citizenship.
